New tower to provide Rowlett with advanced public radio safety system
Construction is now complete on the new communications tower located at 8491 Schrade Road in Rowlett. The tower is part of an interlocal agreement between the cities of Rowlett, Garland, Sachse and Mesquite to purchase, construct and install a Motorola 800 Megahertz public safety (P25) radio system to serve the local area.
Enertech, Motorola’s contractor, began work on the tower in February, and is now conducting a series of post-construction testing phases before public safety is activated on the system.
The go-live target date is currently planned for Sept. 6, which then begins another cycle in which the system must operate uninterrupted for 60 days before it is considered fully ready for public safety purposes.
Once operational, the new P25 Radio System will enable secure digital communication for public safety personnel and maximum interoperability between critical safety-response teams as part of an inter-city effort to better protect our citizens.
