About the Department
In the heart of the Lake Ray Hubbard region, Rowlett Fire Rescue provides service to a community of over  57,000 citizens within an area of around 21 square miles. The department staffs four stations and an administration with 77 employees who manage a constantly expanding range of responsibilities.

Fire Rescue personnel have a long tradition of providing high-quality and cost-effective services to the citizens of Rowlett through the provision of fire suppression, emergency medical services, fire prevention education and emergency management. Application Process: 

1. Application – Posted July 18 through August 18

Completed online from this website. You must have your Firefighter and EMT or Paramedic certifications available to upload electronically when you apply. 

2. Preliminary applicant screening

Performed internally 

3. Invitation to written examination 
Applicants that pass the preliminary applicant screening will receive an email invitation to the written examination. You will have a 2 week window to schedule a time to take the exam at an offsite testing center location.
*If you do not receive this invitation by September 18, you may consider yourself removed from the process.

4. Written examination 
A video-based examination is given for the position of Firefighter. The exam tests your basic math, mechanical and reasoning ability. 

5. Physical ability examination 
Please see our department website for a description of the physical ability exam.

6. Personal History Statement 
The Personal History Statement packet will be issued to each candidate at the Physical Exam. This packet MUST be filled out correctly and completely and returned when you report for your scheduled panel interview.

7. Interview panel
If selected to interview, candidates are given a 20-30 minute interview by a panel of current Firefighters and Fire Officers. Candidates are ranked by the results of this panel. Applicants who pass this panel and are Paramedics will be given preference in the remaining steps of the process. 

8. Background investigation 
A thorough investigation based on the responses in your interview, Personal History Statement and reference checks will be completed. 

9. In-home chief's interview 
A Chief Officer from the department will interview you in your home. 

10. Final chief's interview 
The Fire Chief and Assistant Fire Chief will interview you.
