Community Development Department

If you have been affected by the recent winter weather,  we ask that you please participate in the State’s survey to identify damages across Texas, and to help facilitate targeted assistance to be directed to the local level. A link to the survey is  here.

Building Permits are required for any type of plumbing, HVAC mechanical and electrical work, as well as new irrigation systems, swimming pools, hot tubs, driveways, sidewalks, foundation repair, and decks. If you are removing sheetrock and modifying the framing in any way, a permit is also required. It is always recommended if you are unsure if a permit is required, to check with our office before you begin.

If you have been impacted by the winter storm and have permitting and inspections related queries, please contact us at Please type WINTER STORM PERMIT QUERY in the subject line. Emails received no later noon will be replied to on the same day by close of business.

We appreciate your patience during this period as we work on ways to serve our customers under the current circumstances. In order to ensure the safety of all during the public health emergency, the Department will be providing customer service via email, Zoom meetings and over the phone.

Please call 972.412.6125 for service during regular business hours or visit the Building Inspection, Planning and Urban Design, Development Review Engineering and Neighborhood Services Divisions link for details.

Additionally, the vestibule area of our front office will be open and designated as a permit/plan drop-off area. You may also email plans and permits to: Payments may be made over the telephone via credit card.
