The City of Rowlett has been recognized as a StormReady Community by the National Weather Service.
StormReady, a program started in 1999 in Tulsa, OK, helps America's communities with the communication and safety skills needed to save lives and property--before and during a severe weather event. StormReady helps community leaders and emergency managers strengthen local hazardous weather operations by implementing procedures that reduce the potential for disastrous, weather-related consequences.
StormReady communities are better prepared to save lives from the onslaught of severe weather through better planning, education and awareness. Communities have fewer casualties and reduced property damage if they plan before dangerous weather arrives. No community is storm proof, but StormReady can help communities save lives.
To be recognized as StormReady, a community must meet six general guidelines in the following areas:
