Activities for All Ages

Summer Reading Kick-Off - Saturday, June 11 at 11:00 am - This year’s theme is Oceans of Possibilities. Summer Reading for all ages begins with a kickoff party with music, games, and Kona Ice. You can also meet a live mermaid. Captain’s Logs to track your reading and activities will be available for pick-up at Rowlett Public Library.  

Maker Monday (Kids) -  Mondays at 2:00 pm - Join us for a fun summer craft based on this year’s theme.

Trash to Treasure Sea Monster -  Saturday, June 25 at 11:00 am - Millions of pounds of trash are dumped in our oceans each year, causing damage to the seas and ocean life. Join us in looking to change that by taking what could wash up on the beach and turning it into art.  

All About Animals Live! -  Saturday, July 2 at 11:00 am - Catch a wave to your library this summer and join Cindi to learn how you can become a water conservation warrior. Meet some animals that know how to conserve water, animals that cannot survive without water, and animals that live with an abundance of fresh water every day.

Survive the Bermuda Triangle - Saturday, July 9 at 11:00 am - Are you brave and quick-witted enough to make it out of the Bermuda Triangle? You and your team can try to beat the clock in the Library's escape room activity.

KidsNotes by Garland Symphony Orchestra -  Monday, July 11 at 2:00 pm - Witness the magic that is the Garland Symphony Orchestra. Hear, see, touch, and explore different symphony orchestra instruments.

Goal Setting for the Family -  Saturday, July 23 at 11:00 am - Join our community partner, Ashley Durden, as she shares tips and tricks for helping your family set school year and personal goals.

A Play on Swords - Pirates: Real vs. Hollywood -  Saturday, July 30 at 11:00 am - A Play on Swords is a theatrical troupe providing historical, theatrical, and educational presentations. "Pirates: History vs. Hollywood," is a discussion of the real lives of pirates during the Golden Age of piracy.

Tail End of Summer Splash! -  Saturday, August 6 at 10:00 am - Description coming soon! 

Youth Programs

Teen Tech Camp - Monday to Thursday Every Other Week at 4:00 pm - Explore exciting tech in these 4-day workshops. Registration and attendance are required for all 4 days in order to properly complete and understand the project. To register, click HERE

Family Storytime -  Tuesdays, Wednesdays, & Thursdays at 10:00 am & 11:00 am - For children of all ages who can actively engage. This interactive storytime with books, music, and movement is a high engagement storytime that instills the love of literacy and the Library at an early age. Caregivers also learn valuable information on how to continue building literacy at home. While all ages are welcome, we will focus on pre-literacy skills. Wednesdays & Thursday are a repeat of Tuesday's program.

Senior Book Club - Wednesday, June 1 at 1:00 pm - The group will discuss The Last Flight by Julie Clark (Psychological Thrilller).

Tulsa Race Riot Film - Thursday, June 2 at 6:30 pm - Learn about the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, on the 101st anniversary of the crime, and how the community of Tulsa is coming to terms with its past, present, and future. Join us as we watch and discuss PBS’s film Tulsa: The Fire and the Forgotten (TV-14).  

Maker Mondays - (See Dates Below) at 6:30 pm - Maker Monday is an in-person craft program for adults every 2nd and 4th Monday. Come learn something new, share with others, seek crafting advice, and meet other makers. Materials are provided free of charge. Ages 14 and up welcome.

Any Book Club - 3rd Mondays at 6:30 pm - Every third Monday of the month, chat about any book you've read or listened to recently. Find your next great read and share your favorites with other adults. 

Trivia Night - 3rd Thursdays at 6:30 pm - Join us every 3rd Thursday of the month for Trivia Night. Put your knowledge to the test with other adults in teams or as a single player. The trivia topic will change each month, so be ready for some competitive fun. Kahoot! will be used to play.

Genealogy - Saturdays, June 18 (Part 1) & June 25 (Part 2) at 2:00 pm - Learn what it takes to succeed at hunting down your ancestry or that of friends. This is a two-part workshop that requires both halves to complete the program.  

Friends of the Library Meeting - Tuesday, June 21 at 6:30 pm - Want to get more involved in the library? Come to a Friends of the Library meeting every 3rd Tuesday at 6:30pm. Membership is not required in order to attend the meetings. The Friends will not meet in July. 

Medicare 101 - Thursday, June 30 at 6:00 pm & Friday, July 29 @ 10:00 am - Learn more about making the most of Medicare benefits with a benefit advisor who will be presenting educational information.

Senior Book Club - Wednesday, July 6 at 1:00 pm - The group will discuss The Book of Lost Names by Kristin Harmel (Historical Fiction).

Author Visit - Thursday, July 7 at 6:30 pm - Local author Larry Yoakum III will introduce his latest work of fiction. His writing has been described by many readers as Twilight Zone meets L. Ron Hubbard, with just a pinch of Lovecraft thrown in for good measure.
