Applications are being accepted December 5, 2017-January 25, 2018 (or until the class is full) for the Spring session. Classes will be held each Thursday from 7PM-10PM through April 26 (with one Saturday).
Class sizes are limited to 30 participants and will be selected on a first come first serve basis.
The Rowlett Police Department Citizens Police Academy is a 12-week course (one night per week) that is designed to help the citizen better understand what a police officer encounters while on duty.
This program is intended for citizens over the age of 18 who live or work in the City of Rowlett.
Each week you will have a qualified police instructor explain how each section of the Rowlett Police Department operates. You will learn about the:
There is an evening at our shooting range with hands-on instruction in the use of police firearms and a driving course where students are able to drive a police squad car. We will also arrange for you to ride along with an officer on patrol.
When you graduate, you will receive a Certificate of Achievement showing you have completed the Citizens Police Academy training. The Rowlett Police Department's Citizens Police Academy held its first graduation exercises in the Spring of 1998 and has been held twice yearly since inception. Over 250 citizens have participated.

Upon receipt, a criminal history is run by Officer Reeves and the applicant is notified by email or phone when they are approved.
