The Water Utility Division is responsible for providing safe drinking water to the citizens of Rowlett. We store and distribute the water for the City of Rowlett.
The City purchases potable water from the North Texas Municipal Water District, which treats the water for public use, then sends the water from their plant in Wylie to Rowlett. The Water District’s primary water source is Lake Lavon. The water is pumped into the City’s distribution system and elevated tower.
We care about the water you drink. We extensively test the water to assure that the City of Rowlett’s drinking water system maintains a “Superior” rating. This is the highest rating for water quality issued by the State of Texas. Our residents should be confident that the drinking water quality (PDF) protects their health and well-being.
The water distribution is closely managed through the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) central monitoring system in order to meet all Federal and State regulatory requirements issued by Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. This system provides water service to our customers 24 hours a day.
