As a Fire Rescue support organization, the Community Emergency Response Team assists emergency responders in doing damage assessment, accounting for residents and securing quick, accessible routes into their neighborhood during a natural or man-made disaster. They are trained to be self-sufficient for up to 72 hours without additional resources.
The Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) Program provides support and resources to the Rowlett Police Department by citizens who wish to volunteer their time and skills with their community law enforcement agency. Volunteers attend the Citizen Police Academy and are trained to assist with Handicap Parking Violations, Vacation House Watch, City Code Enforcement and other programs.
The Rowlett Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES) is a public service provided by a volunteer group of Amateur Radio (Ham Radio) Operators that is administered by local, county and state emergency management agencies, and supported by the Federal Emergency Management Agency(FEMA) of the United States government. As a part of the Amateur Radio Service, it provides radio communications for civil-preparedness purposes only, during periods of local, regional or national civil emergencies. These emergencies are not limited to war-related activities, but can include natural disasters such as earthquakes, tornadoes, wildfires, power outages, floods, victim searches, air crashes and many others.
