Congratulations to Chris Kizziar, this month's Spirit of Rowlett Award winner! This award is to publicly recognize ordinary residents doing extra-ordinary things in our community, and the recipients are nominated by YOU – the citizens of Rowlett.
Chris' nominator says:
"Chris has always had a passion to help others. Life Message was formed in 1998. They opened their first facility in January 2010 on Forest Lane in Garland. They were there from 2010-2011, a little over 2 years, then moved to Rowlett in February 2012. They brought 30 clients over from Garland and now serve around 3,000 families a month. Life Message has no borders and no one is turned away. Last year they distributed more than 3.7 million lbs. of food to more than 140,000 people. They opened the Thrift store in November 2012 to support the food pantry. They have had great support from the community giving donations. They had to add more space in less than a year later, and more in July 2017. Chris’ constant drive to help more people, coupled with his respect for his brothers and their military careers, led to the opening of VROC. (Veteran’s Resource &Outreach Center). I hear it has been a success assisting our Veterans! I used “they” because it is a Team Effort Tina Kizziar his wife is right by his side!"
We hope you enjoy this interview of Barbara by Councilmember Pam Bell!
