City Manager Brian Funderburk has presented the Fiscal Year 2022 (FY2022) Proposed Budget to the City Council. The FY2022 Proposed Budget takes into account available resources and allocates revenues to the highest strategic priorities identified in the City’s 2018 Strategic Plan. These priorities guided the development of the FY2022 Proposed Budget. Highlights of the FY2022 Proposed Budget include reducing sewer rates and no increase to the City’s tax rate. This is the third straight year for a reduction in the monthly water and sewer bill!

This month, the Friends of Rowlett Animals (FRAS) and the Animal Shelter Advisory Board are highlighted. FRAS has helped the Rowlett Animal Shelter maintain a 98% Live Release Rate since 2013 and has a volunteer base of 100+. They host multiple off-site adoption events during the year, sponsor heartworm treatments for all dogs in the shelter that test positive for heartworm, sponsor a Barn Cat program for feral cats and so much more! If you would like to donate monetarily or needed items for the Rowlett Animal Shelter, contact them at www.friendsofrowlettanimals.org. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will close up to two right lanes on eastbound Interstate 30 (I-30) from Dalrock Rd. to Bass Pro Dr. daily from August 10 – 14, 9am to 3:30pm. The closures are needed for workers to place concrete barriers in preparation for the start of construction.
The closures are part of a $142 million project to construct two frontage road bridges on I-30 from Bass Pro Dr. to Dalrock Rd. and reconstruct the I-30, Dalrock Rd. interchange in Dallas County. The project is scheduled to complete in mid-2024.

Winners will have their bookmarks featured at the Library from September 15 - October 15.

Rowlett Police Explorers The Rowlett Police Department held a one week mini-academy for our Explorers. The academy included the following classes: DWI/SFSTs, Traffic Stops, TASER Deployment, Defensive Tactics, CPR/First Aid, Crime Scene and Report Writing.
All explorers did a fantastic job!

Explorer Fire GamesThe Fire Explorers from Rowlett Post One participated in the Explorer Fire Games last Saturday. The competition consists of six events and a hose off competition. There were nine teams overall, and three were from Rowlett. Other teams came from Rockwall, Plano and San Diego, TX. Out of 18 events, Rowlett won 15 of them and took 1st, 2nd and 3rd overall.
Below is where our team placed in each category: - CPR - 1st and 3rd place - Rowlett
- Spinal Immobilization - 1st, 2nd and 3rd place - Rowlett
- Bunker Gear Relay - 1st, 2nd and 3rd place - Rowlett

Alley Reconstruction - Dandelion/Trumpet & Daisy/ThistleTexas Civil Construction completed pouring all concrete in both alleys. They started placing sod and are cleaning up the alleys.

2.0 Million Gallon Water Tank RehabilitationCorrosion Eliminators had the testing on the paint done and completed all paint corrections. The interior safety climb and the water level gauge were installed, and the tank was cleaned in preparation for the final walkthrough.

Faulkner-Thornhill-Powell Alley ReconstructionKIK Underground reopened Rowlett Rd. to normal traffic and continued installing the storm sewer on Thornhill Dr. and the alley. They are grading the flex base in the alley. Notices were given to the residents on the Powell/Jones/Persimmon/Colonial alley that work will on that alley start next week.
