Robert Blake MargolisBlake Margolis was elected to the Rowlett City Council in August of 2017. He has been a resident of Rowlett his entire life and has been an active member of the community since he was six years old.

He was elected to the City Council at age eighteen and is one of the youngest elected officials the State of Texas. Margolis was the founder of the once popular social media page “Rowlett Scanner”. Blake created the platform when he was fourteen years old and operated it until he was seventeen. The platform, which had over 40,000 followers, was created to inform the citizens in Rowlett of emergency and community events. He closed the page in October of 2017 to focus on his goal of becoming more engaged in the community and local government.

Blake was appointed to the Rowlett Parks and Recreation Advisory Board as a Jr. Alternate member in 2016 where he served two consecutive terms. On the board, he was able to bring a different and younger perspective to the table. He was an active member with the “Rebuild Kids Kingdom” committee and was involved in the planning stages of the project and the fundraising effort. Margolis is currently attending a University where he is working to obtain a Master’s in National Security.

He serves in various capacities as a Councilmember to the City of Rowlett including the following:

  • Member of the Spirit of Rowlett Nominating Committee
  • Council Liaison to the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board

  • Council Liaison to the Texas Municipal League
  • Past Council Liaison and Member to the 2018 Strategic Planning Committee
  • Past Council Liaison and Member to the 2017-2018 Library Visioning Task Force
