Arlan Brown Sherrill, Jr., better known as Brownie, is a lifelong resident of this area. He and his wife, SueAnn, have lived in Rowlett since 1991. Brownie has been a member of First Christian Church in Garland since he was two years old. His son and daughter-in-law live in Lago Vista, Texas, while SueAnn's daughter lives in Rowlett. Brownie and SueAnn have two great grandchildren.
Brownie is a graduate of Rowlett's Citizen Police Academy, Citizen Fire Academy, Rowlett City Academy, and Leadership Rowlett Class XXVI. He is a charter member of the Tri-Academy Alumni. He has served on the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, the Charter Review Board, where he was a subcommittee chairman, and the Senior Advisory Board. He is a member of the Rowlett Chamber of Commerce. Brownie is also an active member of the Community Emergency Response Team. During his first term as a City Councilman, Brownie served as the Council liaison to the Animal Shelter Advisory Board, member of the North Texas Crime Commission, member of the North Central Texas Council of Governments Emergency Preparedness Planning Commission, Ethics Committee member, Court Governance Committee member, and a member of the Court Security Committee. He is very much a public servant. He was presented with the Rowlett Citizen Corps Council Volunteer of the Year award for 2017.
Brownie supports sustainable, well-planned growth for everyone, with a key focus on higher paying jobs, and of course, the infrastructure must be brought up to a sustainable level. He also supports competitive compensation for city employees.
He believes each project that comes before the City Council must be analyzed based on its own merits and facts.
